MAGNETIC PERCEPTION HEADS

Perception heads

The magnetic perception head is a static pulse generator suitable to drive single or dual frequency type indicators.

It is compact, non corrosive and thus suitable for a wide range of diesel engine applications.

The magnetic perception head senses variation in magnetic flux, generating a frequency proportional to rotary or linear speed, each pulse is the result of a gear tooth or cog passing the magnetic perception head pole piece.

Perception Heads (EMP9-1)

EMP9-1

Coil resistance

400 ohms +/- 10%

Construction

Non corrosive alloy body

Environment

Fully waterproof. Can be used with tip of head totally immersed in oil or oil vapour.

Gap setting

Recommended gap = 0.50mm (0.020”)

Gear tooth dimensions

Distance between tips of succeeding gear teeth to be not less than 6mm.

Mounting

Suitable for threaded hole or can be mounted in clearance hole using the 2 x 5/8”UNF locknuts.

Termination

2 x 6.35mm (¼”) male blades protected by rubber sleeve.

Weight

42 grammes nett.

INSTALLATION

Electrical

Screened twin core cable between magnetic perception head and instrument is essential to prevent electrical interference. Screened cable must be connected to a good earth at instrument end. Maximum recommended run of cable is 10 metres.

Mechanical

Mounting to be rigid, to prevent probe vibration. When setting gap one half turn of perception head = linear movement of 0.70mm (0.027”).
